A guide to your new ride

A guide to your new ride

Buying a new car can be a timeous process, from doing research to looking through a multitude of cars for the best offers. We have therefore broken up this process into simple steps for you to take when buying your new car.

Here are 8 steps you can take to make your car buying experience a little easier. ðŸ˜Š

Step 1 – Your needs

There are many reasons for purchasing a car such as transport for work and other essential tasks you may need to do.

Whatever reason you may have for acquiring a car, this will be a good starting point in your car-buying journey. Here are some helpful questions to ask yourself to uncover your needs in buying a car:

  • How many passengers would you need to take?

This will help you determine the number of seats the car should have.

  • What types of roads would you primarily be driving on?

Off-road (an SUV or bakkie), on highways, or on roads with much stop-and-go traffic (a fuel-efficient car).

  • What are your must-have features?

Would you need Apple CarPlay/ Android Auto, a camera for park distance control, or leather seats?

  • What safety features are important to you?

How many airbags would be sufficient for you? Would you need blind-spot warning or ISOFIX?

  • How much boot space would you need?

How much cargo would you need the car to be able to carry, would you be carrying a stroller on a regular basis?

  • Would you need to tow anything?

If yes, how much towing capacity would you need?

Step 2 – Finances

In simple terms, a budget is defined as how much money you get and what you would do with it for a certain period.

Whether you are looking to do a cash purchase or looking for vehicle finance, it will be important to set a budget before you get started.

You should also consider factors that will affect your budget in the long run, such as car insurance and monthly expenses for fuel.

Step 3 – Type of car

Some of the questions you may have answered in step one may help you decide on the type of car you would need. For example, if you are looking for a car that would be able to carry seven passengers, an MPV or minivan may be the perfect choice for you.

Choosing the right type of car depends on what you would be using it for and where you will be driving more often. Here are just some of the most popular types of cars:

Sedans-a great family car

Hatchbacks-similar to sedans but has a more stylish appearance.

SUVs- a higher ground clearance for a better view of the road.

Crossovers- a hatchback and an SUV in one, compact yet spacious with a better view of the roads.

MPVs- 7-seater cars, great for large families

Bakkies- perfect for heavy loading and for those who love an adventure.

Step 4 – New or Used

It does feel pretty good to get into a brand-new car that is all yours. That fresh new car smell, new interior with the latest gadgets, and being the first one to create new memories in the car, is a bonus.

What may be holding you back from this dream, is the cost of a brand-new car. New cars are priced higher compared to used or even demo cars. Just because they are used, that does not mean you lose out on all the fun and excitement of getting into your new car. They are certainly more affordable.

Before you decide whether to get a new or used car, consider your finances. Think realistically, especially when it comes to your budget.

Step 5 – Search for cars

Now that you know what you should be looking for, you should start searching for the most ideal car for you.

You will be able to view a wide range of cars Carter has to offer on our website at www.heycarter.co.za. From images, features, and pricing, all the information you would require is there for you.

Step 6 – Consider different brands

A specific car brand that you may not have taken an interest in previously, may seem appealing to you now. Especially with all the high-tech features that many car brands are offering. Consider different brands to ensure you do not miss out on a better option. You may be pleasantly surprised.

Step 7 – Test drive

Once you have a list of vehicles that you’re most likely to purchase, contact the dealership/s and arrange a test drive.

Test driving a car enables you to evaluate whether the car is comfortable and drivable for you, and most importantly, whether it is the best fit for you.

Performance is also another important factor to consider. It is recommended to drive in similar areas where you will be driving daily. For example, in areas where there is a lot of stop-and-go traffic, steep hills, or gravel roads. You wouldn’t want to purchase a vehicle that cannot handle your lifestyle.

When you are not driving the vehicle, take the time to consider the size of the vehicle (for parking purposes), the cabin, and the boot space. Ensure the vehicle you decide to purchase has the space you need instead of having to compensate for the lack of it. Also, if you are going to be taking passengers, check out the comfort levels and space available. The last thing you would want is to have uncomfortable passengers, especially on those long drives.

Step 8 – Get your car

Now that you have completed your test drives, you should have a vehicle in mind that would be perfect for you.

All that will be left to do now is get the car. Whether it’s through finance or cash purchase, all that's left to do now is get the car!

Buying your new car can be an exciting and thrilling experience. Although, rushing into it, may not be something you’d want to do. Let these 8 steps guide you into making the choice that would be best for you! ðŸ˜Š
