Car Service

It can be a daunting task to service your car but with Carter, we are there for you every step of the way. Here is some helpful information about car services and what you should know when getting your car serviced.
What does it mean to service your car?
A service is the routine maintenance and replacement of parts which have reached the end of their lifespan. Various checks are also done to ensure your car is working efficiently. The actual service to be done depends on the mileage, how old your car is, and the type of car you have.
There are minor services and major services. Minor services usually include:
- Replacing the oil filter.
- Replacing the air filter.
- Changing the oil.
- Replacing the pollen filter.
Major services on the other hand, are more detailed and can include the minor service parts as well as:
- Replacing the spark plugs.
- Accessory belt kit.

There are also wear and tear parts in your car which are checked during these services, and these are:
- Wiper blades.
- Brake pads.
- Brake discs.
When booking your car in for its service, the service advisor will be able to inform on what service you are due for, the cost of the service (if you do not have a service or maintenance plan in place) and the parts they would need to check or replace.
What should you know?
- Is your car still under warranty?
- Is your service plan current?
- Do you have a maintenance plan in place?
As a refresher, a warranty would cover any mechanical or electrical factory fault in your car. A service plan would cover the service to be done (service parts and labor), and a maintenance plan would cover all wear and items in your car, as well as the service.
Did you know, you can opt for an extended service plan and an extended warranty for your car even after purchase?
Once your car has been taken in for a service, it is only a matter of hours for the service to be completed. The duration of the service depends on which service you have been booked-in for and if any additional work needs to be done.
At Carter, a 101-point safety check is carried out to ensure that all the safety parts in your car, are in a good working condition. Some of these parts include:
- Headlights.
- Taillights.
- Wiper blades.
- Brake pads and brake discs.
- The health status of your vehicle’s battery.

If there are any faults detected in your car, the service advisor will contact you and discuss any additional work which may be required.
For any additional parts which may be needed, the service advisor will either provide you with a quote, before any parts are replaced, or claim from your warranty or maintenance plan (if your car is still under warranty or has a valid maintenance plan in place).
As the owner of the car, you have the right to accept or decline any additional work to be carried out during the service.

Once your car is ready to be collected, the service advisor or the mechanic will discuss what work was carried out on your car during the service and if there is anything you should look out for. They will also confirm the service or maintenance plans which are still available for your next service/s and advise when you should book your car in for its next service. This should be written in your service book; however, it is good to know all these details beforehand.

We, at Carter, have professional and qualified team members in our service department to ensure your car is in the best driving condition and ready to hit the road again. We strive to provide you with the best customer service and expertise to ensure many more kilometers out on the open road!
